Challenges and Opportunities for Iraq’s Future Foreign Role in Light of Regional Transformations After 2022 (Counterterrorism as a Case Study)

The study of the situation in Iraq and the regional environment since 2022 reveals multiple transformations that have led to both opportunities and challenges for Iraq's regional role. Following the security challenges Iraq has faced since 2022, it is evident that it has suffered from the impact of regional transformations, despite the opportunities that have emerged within them. Regarding the fight against terrorism, it is clear that Iraq has focused on strengthening security diplomacy and building strategic partnerships. It has been relatively successful in transforming counterterrorism from a security burden on the Iraqi state into a tool for enhancing sovereignty. Iraq has also succeeded in activating regional cooperation and working to ensure a significant and active role in its surrounding region, thereby achieving a balance between international and national obligations.
