This research provides a comprehensive analysis of international humanitarian law provisions, focusing on protecting vulnerable groups in armed conflicts, particularly the elderly, children, women, and prisoners of war. It clarifies the general concept of international humanitarian law and its objectives in protecting non-combatants, including civilians and internationally protected persons. The study highlights the special protection offered by the four 1949 Geneva Conventions and their 1977 Additional Protocols, seeking to guarantee vulnerable groups' rights during war. It reviews legal provisions affirming the rights of prisoners of war, the elderly, women, and children in armed conflicts. Furthermore, it focuses on humanitarian organizations, especially the International Committee of the Red Cross, in protecting and assisting conflict victims by applying and actively developing international humanitarian law to meet protection needs. The research examines international protection and its practical implementation, highlighting challenges of effectively applying these rules in conflict zones. Finally, it explains the relationship between legal protection and practical reality, showing how inadequate implementation of certain rights leads to continued human rights violations.
