The book "Globalization of World Politics: An Introduction to International Relations" is one of the most prominent academic references in the field of international relations. It is usually presented as an essential introduction to understanding major transformations in the international system. It has multiple editions, reflecting its importance and continued influence on the study and development of the field of international relations. The book aims to provide the reader with a comprehensive understanding of international relations through a balanced presentation of theoretical and applied aspects. It does not limit itself to addressing major theories such as realism, liberalism, Marxism, constructivism, feminism, and postcolonialism, but rather connects them closely to contemporary global issues, offering practical applications that illustrate how these theories can be employed in analyzing international events and global politics. This provides the necessary material for developing a concrete understanding of the key issues that define global politics today. The book demonstrates how international relations today have become a complex network of interactions that extend beyond states to include international organizations, multinational corporations, social movements, global civil society, and even individuals who have become political actors in some transnational issues. It views these actors as pivotal players in global politics. Globalization has fundamentally transformed the nature of global politics, redefining central concepts such as sovereignty, power, identity, and security, and driving increased economic, technological, and cultural interdependence across the globe.
The book emphasizes that this unprecedented global interdependence has made contemporary challenges—such as international security, climate change, human rights, poverty, and migration—global issues that transcend the capacity of any single state to address alone. This necessitates a deeper understanding of the structure of the international system, its institutions, and its cooperative mechanisms. Based on the foregoing, this book serves as an intellectual and analytical guide to understanding global politics in the age of globalization. It combines in-depth theoretical exposition with empirical analysis, aiming to enable the reader to grasp how power dynamics and relationships among international actors are evolving in a world where politics intersects with economics, culture with security, and national identities with globalization. It achieves this through three main objectives:
To provide an overview of global politics in the age of globalization.
To summarize the main approaches to understanding contemporary global politics.
To provide the necessary references for a concrete understanding of the key issues relevant to global politics.
